Meet Cassi Rosenberg, the 2023 recipient of the CNF King Scholarship, Ralph King Career & Technology Education Award
1) I plan to attend Baker College in Muskegon. Michigan for a degree in culinary arts. 2) I am the most proud of making it into the National Technology Honors Society. It is an amazing opportunity that Lisle High School offers students to be a part of the Technology Center of DuPage, where I was recognized and awarded for my good grades, but I was also recognized at Lisle in front of several peers who would have never known of my achievements at TCD. 3) One of the most influential teachers at Lisle High School would have to be Mr.Blankenship. Though Mr. Blankenship has only worked at Lisle for two years, and I only had him one of those years, the impact he made on my life was very significant. I had no idea what I wanted to go into in the future and no idea how to figure that out but Mr. Blankenship always made sure I knew I had the potential to be anything I wanted to be. He made me want to achieve all my goals and to find out we have similar interests made it that much easier to ramble on about my excitement of the future. Another person who made my years at Lisle great was Mrs. Gansberg. Mrs. Gansberg works in the attendance office and there are no classes in there but she always loved hearing everything I had to say. She proved that being nice never hurts and always found a way to make my day. I then became a pass runner and spent all of the third hour with her which helped me get through my last few months of high school. There is no doubt in my mind that I would go out of my way just to see her smile. I want to achieve my goals in life just so I can come back and tell her all that I've accomplished. 4) I've got a few hopes, dreams, goals, and wants in my next few years with college and my career. My goal is to get an associate's degree in culinary arts and get a bachelor's degree in business and hopefully become a private chef. A private chef gives me everything I am looking for in a job. For example I would get to travel with families to amazing new places. I would mostly get to make my own hours and be my own boss and I'd get to take time for myself. Those things are really important to me. I also just want to find great people along the way and better myself to make sure I'm the best version of myself. 5) I want to thank you all so very much! I wish I could say there are words that can describe how much this helps me but there isn't. I wanted to go to this program not only because I wanted to get out and see the world but I wanted to get to experience and learn from this great program they have. And no it isn't crazy expensive but the tuition looks a lot bigger to a single mother of twins sending both to college at the same time. Going to this school will allow me to jump out of my shell and gain really great connections that will kickstart my career in being a private chef. Meet Lily Gavigan, the 2023 recipient of the CNF Ron Logeman Educational Leadership Award
a. I plan to attend Illinois State University in the fall, majoring in Elementary Education. b. I am most proud of receiving the Pride of Lions award twice during my high school career. The first time nomination was by my History Teacher and the second nomination was from the Wellness Department by my Interior Design and Food Prep teacher. I was recognized for working hard and turning assignments in on time, and setting a good example to other students. c. The teacher who was most influential to me was Mrs. Courtney Multhaupt. I had her for Creative Writing and English 3. Mrs. Multhaupt inspired me to do my best by encouraging me when I was struggling at certain times throughout high school. In addition, Mrs. Multhaupt was my Cheer coach for two years. During that time, she nominated me to be Captain of the cheer team. I learned a lot of leadership skills from her inside and outside of the classroom. d. Upon receiving my Bachelor's degree, I hope to obtain a teaching position at an elementary school in Illinois. In the future, I would also like to get married and have a family of my own. e. I am very grateful for this scholarship money. Although my parents and I have tried to save since I was little, we do not have enough savings to pay for it all, so I will be taking student loans out to help cover the cost, and this scholarship will definitely help reduce that cost. Thank you again for awarding me with this scholarship, I am so honored and humbled to receive it! Kind Regards, Lily Gavigan Meet Audrey Catuara, the 2023 recipient of the CNF, Steve Green Musical Achievement Award
Now that my time at Lisle is officially over, I will be attending Grand Canyon University in Phoenix, Arizona and majoring in finance for the next four years. While attending Lisle High School, my time was filled with many different twists and turns. In the middle of my freshman year, the Covid-19 pandemic shut down the world, and we were left doing online school for almost another year. Being able to persevere and continue to excel during these times is definitely one of my proudest accomplishments. A teacher that was the most influential to me was Mr. Gumina. I had the privilege of having Mr. Gumina for all four years of high school as my band director. He has a passion for music and teaching that is so encouraging and needed for his students. His upbeat music in marching band and passionate music in symphonic band that he selected, helped me continue to fall in love with the flute. Mr. Gumina is someone that I can confidently say has made a strong impact on my life and I will hold his lessons and advice with me forever. In my next milestone, I hope to eventually graduate from Grand Canyon University and obtain an internship position to gain real world financial experience for my career. I also wish to continue to volunteer, play sports, join clubs, and play music as I start my new life in Arizona. In closing, I would like to say thank you again for choosing me for this scholarship. Because of the help of this award, it has relieved some of my financial burdens for college. Thank you so much for this opportunity, Audrey Catuara Meet Tyler Anderson, the 2023 recipient of the CNF, Mulcare Scholarship Dr. John Mulcare Award, Outstanding Science Student and the Grutzmacher Scholarship, Grutzmacher Family Alumni Legacy Award, Outstanding Achievement and Service by a Descendant of a Lisle Graduate I would like to thank you for everything the Carlin Nalley foundation has done for me. 1: This Fall I will be attending Nova Southeastern University where I will major in Marine Biology and minor in Research Studies and Scientific Diving 2: Of all my accomplishments at Lisle High school, the ones I am most proud of include earning Academic Excellence, becoming an Illinois State Scholar, and helping the math team to achieve over a decade of continuous conference championships. 3: My most influential teacher was Mrs. Wallenberg/Derby. No matter how my day was going or what mood I was in, I could always count on her class to make it better. Mrs. Wallenberg expects the best out of all her students and challenged me to reach my potential every day. Even when I faltered she was there to pick me up and continued to push me to succeed. Meet Kayleigh Hrabrich, the 2023 recipient of the CNF Fiore Scholarship, Beverly Fiore Award for Outstanding Thespian
I plan on spending the next 4 years at the University of Iowa in Iowa City, IA as an open major. I am between interests of study including environmental science, English, and journalism. However, I plan on minoring in theatre. At Lisle High School, I am most proud of my artistic and academic achievements. I put my heart and soul into performing with my choir and in the musicals and play I was a part of. I am ecstatic to have been awarded "Actor of the Year" in 2022 for my role of Mother Superior in Sister Act the Musical, "Thespian of the Year" in 2023 for my extensive involvement in theatre at Lisle High School, and the "National School Choral Award" in 2023 for dedication in choir. Academically, I am proud to have been on the high honor roll for all 4 years and to have received the "Academic Excellence Award." I am proud of my persistence and drive to overcome a heavy workload, yet remain involved in my theatrical interests. The most influential teacher to me from my high school is Mr. Woyna (English). I had him my freshman and junior year. I truly believe that the knowledge he has given and shown me will stick with me for the rest of my academic career and possible writing career as well. His content and strategy of teaching has been particularly engaging and meaningful to me. Mr. Woyna's class is the one class I find myself referencing daily, especially in my writing. I am grateful for his approach in requesting feedback from students that take his class. He is not only an incredible teacher but a flexible person with sincere listening skills. I want to seriously thank him for making me the educated person I am today. In this next stage of my life, I want to figure out my calling. I've been continuously told to take the musical route in my studies. However, I will study a different type of passion of mine while keeping singing and acting in my outside-of-school life (without a single doubt). I want to choose a career path that will make a difference in the world (there has to be a reason why I'm dedicating myself to a profession). After my undergraduate, I will study for my master's. In college, I am most looking forward to meeting new people that are different from me and others that share the same passions as me. I'm super excited to form new connections! I was through the roof when I heard my name called for the Beverly Fiore Scholarship. I am deeply honored to have been chosen for the drama scholarship under the mother of the Lisle Thespian Troupe herself: Ms. Beverly Fiore. I first want to personally thank her for her eminent contribution to theatre at LHS. She is highly respected by our current Thespian Troupe and we hope to make her proud. I want to immensely thank the Carlin Nalley Foundation for giving me this opportunity to pay for my college expenses and continue my education. This scholarship means so much to me and I will put it to good use by studying theatre as well. Thank you so much! Sincerely, Kayleigh Hrabrich Prayers were answered as we had sunshine for the ceremony. (This is inside information known by those who were ever a part of the Lisle Annual Track Meet.) “Coach” Carlin Nalley Honored During the Warhol Unveiling Ceremony for the Lisle Hometown Heroes Mural The Lisle Warhol Committee presented an unveiling ceremony of the official Lisle Hometown Heroes Window Mural! Representatives from the family of all Lisle Hometown Heroes were present. After the presentation, guests were given a commemorative program and invited into the newly remodeled Lisle Library for refreshments.
Here is the speech Bill delivered on Wednesday, May 10, 2023, at the Lisle High School Honors Night after inviting Kaylee Gansberg's parents, Michele and Keith, to join him on stage. Good evening everybody and congratulations students. I applaud you on your accomplishments during your career at Lisle High School. My name is Bill Buchelt and I’ve had the privilege to serve on the Carlin Nalley board as a director for the past 10 years. I stand in front of you with the honor of presenting the Carlin Nalley Foundation’s final scholarship, the Kaylee Ann Gansberg Art Award. L to R: CNF President John Bartels, Keith Ganseburg, Recipient of the first Kaylee Ann Gansberg Art Award Scholarship Zoe Hines, Michele Ganesburg, CNF Director Bil Buchelt at the Lisle High School Honors night Wednesday, May 10, 2023. I’d like to share a quick story with you. At one of my favorite recent assignments, the guest speaker happened to be a Buddhist monk from the Shaolin temple. As he entered the room, nobody said a word. He opened his presentation by walking to the board and wrote “EVERYONE WANTS TO SAVE THE WORLD, BUT NO-ONE WANTS TO HELP MOM DO THE DISHES.” We all laughed. But then he went on to say this to the attendees: “Statistically, it’s highly unlikely that any of you will ever have the opportunity to run into a burning orphanage and rescue an infant. But, in the smallest gesture of kindness— a warm smile, holding the door for the person behind you, or shoveling the driveway of the elderly person next door— you commit an act of immeasurable kindness, because to each of us, our life is our universe.” This is my hope, he continued, for you for our future that by your smallest acts of kindness, you will change another’s world. Kaylee Gansberg was who that monk was hoping everybody could be. Kaylee always did the little acts of kindness for anybody and everybody without hesitation and never asked for anything in return. Kaylee lived to make a positive difference in others’ lives. Kaylee was a 2019 graduate of Lisle High School who was taken from us too soon. She passed away suddenly less than a year ago in an unfortunate accident, right before the start of her senior year at Western Michigan University. I had the honor of knowing Kaylee and seeing her through many different lenses; she was one of my daughter’s best friends, I saw her socially at Lisle gatherings as well as working side by side with her at the studio. She was always true to who she was and what she stood for. She dreamed of traveling the world and photographing it. Kaylee never took NO for an answer and always asked why. She was a loving and giving person that made the world a better place. Kaylee touched so many lives and her memory will inspire other young artists to pursue a similar creative path that embodies both the artist and the art. Kaylee excelled in high school with a top finish in the portfolio competition at the I-8 conference and won numerous awards at gallery exhibits during her three years at Western Michigan University. She was awarded her degree posthumously last week at the university’s commencement ceremonies. I would encourage all of you to live as the Shaolin Monk encouraged. Be kind, be selfless, be happy, be like KAYLEE. We are proud to honor Kaylee and to help future high achieving art students at Lisle High school accomplish their future educational goals. This year's recipient will be continuing her art education at NIU as an art major working towards a degree in art education. She has multiple creative outlets in which she excels including sculpting, drawing, painting and photography. She also placed 3rd in state in cosmetology through TCD. She has a voice. She has confidence and is a friend to all. Please join me in congratulating Zoe Hines as the winner of the Kaylee Ann Gansberg Art scholarship winner.
