Saturday morning, October 7, 2017 at 11:00 a.m.
A large group of alums were milling around the track at Wilde Field waiting for the photographer to set up and Coach Nalley to make his way to the center of the group. As with any reunion, there was a whole lot of chatter when suddenly the din was shattered by two piercing tweets from a whistle.
Suddenly it was stone quiet.
Then after a pregnant pause, a roll of laughter as everyone recognized the force and the cadence of those tweets. And the need to instantly be quiet. It was Saturday morning and coach Nalley was blowing the whistle at Wilde Field. Talk about a time machine.
Wilde Field is a special place in the hearts of so many alums so there was no better backdrop for a special photo session as part of the All-Years Reunion weekend. The photos were centered around coach Carlin Nalley’s 80th birthday. What better present to give “The Coach” than the ultimate team photo.
So word went out for all of those who played under coach Nalley, whether part of his Hall of Fame track coaching career or his Hall of Fame football coaching years to be at Wilde Field Saturday morning, October 7 to “get in the picture”
Dozens of alums showed up to do their part in making the photo and the event a special one for Mr. Nalley. The alums were thrilled to see Mr. Bob Jones also in attendance as he stood with Coach Nalley for the full team pictures, then countless smaller group photos, mostly by graduating year. Some in attendance ducked out of work to be in the picture. All were there to say thanks to their coach and remember a special time and place from their school years.

DON’T GET LEFT OUT OF THE PICTURE
Our coach (Carlin Nalley) turned 80 this year and the Board of Directors of the Carlin Nalley Foundation was searching for the ideal gift to commemorate this wonderful milestone. But what do you give him that would be altogether fitting and proper?
The Board decided you. His former athletes, assistants, and managers. The team members he coached during his storied decades at LSHS. So by “you” we mean a picture. Since the All-Years reunion on Saturday, October 7 looks to be a huge blow-out and a number of you will already be in town for Alumni Night at the football game on the 6th we’ve scheduled the ultimate team photos for late Saturday morning.
Yes, photos.
Saturday morning, October 7, at 11 am, we are calling on all of Coach Nalley’s former football players and all the track team members from his years as head coach, to assemble at Wilde Field (at the Junior High at 5207 Center Av.) for two gigantic team pictures.

RAIN OR SHINE (we’ll move indoors in case of bad weather)
We’re calling it PROJECT 200 because our goal is to have at least 200 of The Coach’s former players, assistant coaches, and managers sit for each of the two pictures. Yep, that’s a total of 400. One photo for football, one for track and field. It’ll be quick and easy. We’re asking everyone to plan to arrive starting at 10:30. Where the concession stand will be open and selling food & drinks. Our goal is to set up for the first picture starting at 11 am sharp. We figure it’ll be somewhere around 11:15 when the first group finally says “cheese” but we’ll get right down to business seating the entire group on the bleachers at Wilde Field. A few quick clicks, then it’s on to the second photo. All told, the entire process should be done by 11:30. But by all means get there early or stay afterward to reconnect with those from your past, sit for both photos if you were part of both programs, and make sure you take time to say hello to The Coach.
Also, we’re counting on each of you to spread the word to your fellow classmates, teammates, siblings, cousins, and neighbors who were coached by Mr. Nalley. Word of mouth is our best advertisement and we need your help.
Lions, it’s going to be one heck of a weekend, and your presence at this photo event is a “can’t miss” Even if you cannot make any of the events that weekend, please be a part of Project 200. There is no cost. There is no dress code. There is a coach who’ll be very glad you’re part of this keepsake and his 80th birthday.
