Dear John Bartels,
I hope you are staying safe and healthy! First, thank you so much for selecting me as the recipient of this scholarship, it means so much to me and will help me greatly in achieving my dreams.
I've attached a recent portfolio of myself for the website from my senior photos, so I hope it works! Here are the answers to your questions:
1. I'll be attending The American Musical and Drama Academy in Los Angeles, California.
2. I'll be majoring in musical theater.
3. My dream career is just to perform in as many shows as I can. It doesn't matter if I'm always on the stage or on for only one scene of the whole show, but to make connections with the audience and share the story is my dream. And I'd love to do it for as long as directors will let me audition.
4. My most influential teacher was Mrs. Kerback, the recent choir teacher. She encouraged me to find my voice (figuratively and literally) and helped me gain the confidence I needed to succeed in theater. She always pushed her students to be the best versions of themselves and was a fantastic role model to aspire to be.
5. My most significant experience was during my junior year musical, Shrek. I was on the wings watching my castmates perform the song "Freak Flag" and immediately started to tear up. I was just so moved by their performance and realized how lucky I am to have the opportunity to spend a lifetime with people who share the same passion and drive as me. I am so lucky that the Lisle High School musicals encouraged my career decision and helped me I was making the right decision. The spring musical brought me closer to my best friends and had me learn more about myself.
6. To win this scholarship is a dream. For aspiring performers, we face a lot of doubt throughout our theater careers. There are people who tell us to always have a back-up or say we'll never make it. But to have the Alumni of Lisle High School support me means the world. It means that there are still people out there who support artists of all forms. It means that not just me, but everyone who ever dreams of inspiring generations to come will always have the support of the Alumni. To have that many people believe in me to pursue my dream is unfathomable and I will forever be grateful for their generosity.
Again, thank you so much for all of your support. Due to receiving this scholarship, one semester of my freshman year is already paid off and I cannot express my gratitude. Thank you for this opportunity!

Eva Schoell, 2019 Steve Green Musical Achievement Award
Good Afternoon, Mr. Bartels!
I would firstly like to thank you for this scholarship. Receiving this scholarship has relieved quite a bit of stress about how I am going to pay for my education. It has given me a great deal of satisfaction in knowing that all of the hard effort I have put into music ever since I've picked up my instruments has paid off.
Now onto the request I received in the letter this morning. I will be attending Wartburg College in Waverly, Iowa this fall. I plan on pursuing a double major in International Relations and Political Science with a double minor in German and Leadership. I will also be participating in the Wartburg Wind Ensemble outside of my studies. The most influential experience at Lisle that I had was being involved in the Arts and Social Studies courses. The educators that taught these classes were absolutely incredible. Band, Marching Band, Jazz Band and Ensemble, and being enrolled in art programs like Drawing, Ceramics, Sculpture, Photography, and AP Studio Art were incredibly influential in helping to round out and develop my talents and passions. History and politics courses were what led me to what I want to pursue as further education. Classes like World History, American Civics, Economics, AP United States History, and AP United States Government and Politics were what kindled my fascination of the world around me and inspired me to want to leave a lasting impression on it.
I would like to conclude in saying thank you again, to the alumni, in rewarding me with this scholarship. Being granted this scholarship not only helped to aid in tuition costs but also has increased my confidence in that I am worth it.
Thank you, and have a wonderful summer!
Sincerely,
Eva Schoell

Sophie Barnett 2018 Steve Green Musical Achievement Award
My name is Sophie Barnett and I received the Beverly Fiore and the Steve Green scholarships. I plan to continue my education at Illinois State University and major in elementary education with a minor in theater. During my time at Lisle the one thing that was the most influential to me was the music department. I was involved in Marching Band, Symphonic Band, Jazz Band, Jazz Combo, Concert Choir and Varsity Singers. I was also in the musicals every year, being the lead my Senior year. I loved being in the musicals because they helped me to find who I am, what I excel at, and what I want to study at college.
I would like to send my sincere thanks to all of the Lisle High School Alumni and members of the Carlin Nalley Foundation who selected me for the two scholarships. It really means a lot to me and I will always remember the generous gesture. It will be a tremendous help as I begin my time at Illinois State.
Very sincerely,
Sophie Barnett
