Now that my time at Lisle is officially over, I will be attending Grand Canyon University in Phoenix, Arizona and majoring in finance for the next four years.
While attending Lisle High School, my time was filled with many different twists and turns. In the middle of my freshman year, the Covid-19 pandemic shut down the world, and we were left doing online school for almost another year. Being able to persevere and continue to excel during these times is definitely one of my proudest accomplishments.
A teacher that was the most influential to me was Mr. Gumina. I had the privilege of having Mr. Gumina for all four years of high school as my band director. He has a passion for music and teaching that is so encouraging and needed for his students. His upbeat music in marching band and passionate music in symphonic band that he selected, helped me continue to fall in love with the flute. Mr. Gumina is someone that I can confidently say has made a strong impact on my life and I will hold his lessons and advice with me forever.
In my next milestone, I hope to eventually graduate from Grand Canyon University and obtain an internship position to gain real world financial experience for my career. I also wish to continue to volunteer, play sports, join clubs, and play music as I start my new life in Arizona.
In closing, I would like to say thank you again for choosing me for this scholarship. Because of the help of this award, it has relieved some of my financial burdens for college.
Thank you so much for this opportunity,
Audrey Catuara
