A huge thank you to Bill Buchelt, owner of ÉLAN PHOTOGRAPHY, for taking these great photos.
CNF: Following graduation, what are your educational plans—in which institution do you intend to enroll, and what will be your major field of study? MK: Next year I plan to attend Auburn University. I am going to study Law and Justice, minoring in Marketing and Spanish and on the pre-law (law school) track! CNF: Which of your achievements at Lisle High School do you hold in the highest regard? MK: I was Lisle's Student Congress President this past year, and while that may not be seen as an achievement to all, I am extremely proud of it as one and I will forever hold it in very high regards. I am beyond thankful that my classmates chose me to be the voice of us all, and I am proud to have been able to express not only my opinions, but my classmates as well. CNF: Which educators or staff members at Lisle High School had the most significant impact on you, and what made them so influential? MK: Lisle is a special school with a large number of impactful teachers and staff members. My answer to teachers who had made a difference for me could genuinely be four pages long. I am so thankful to have been blessed with a school filled with staff that truly care for each of their students, and work toward impacting each and every one of us. Three teachers that heavily impacted me include Mrs. Kerrn, Mrs. Bylsma, and Mr. Lascala. For my academic excellence dinner, I chose Mrs. Kerrn as my most influential teacher as she aided me in Student Congress and was always there for advice, a good laugh, and a welcoming hug. I also feel like Mrs. Bylsma heavily impacted my high school career and plans afterward. I absolutely loved her English classes, and found a passion for language, punctuation, and reading. Her classes not only led me toward my pursuit of law, but they also provided me a place to simply be myself. Throughout her class, we not only learned all about the language, but we were also given time to talk about ourselves, our struggles, our fears, and come together. My personal and educational growth was definitely best shown throughout the classes that I took with her as the teacher. Another noteworthy teacher would be Mr. Lascala. He taught me Freshman year as well as Senior Year, and he also became an assistant coach for my basketball team during my senior year. He cares about each and every one of his students deeply and truly ensures that we all succeed. He impacted my mindset of myself, as well as my capabilities, in and out of the classroom and I will forever be thankful to have had the opportunity to have had him as both a teacher and a coach. CNF: After reaching your next academic milestone, what personal or professional goals do you aim to achieve? MK: After my completion of undergrad, I plan to attend law school. I am unsure of what type of law I plan to pursue, but I am excited to assess my options and hopefully be in court as soon as possible! I also hope to stay involved in my community. Whether that be Lisle, or now Auburn, I hope to continue doing community service and plan to figure out new ways to make my community the best it can be. CNF: The Lisle Alumni have contributed significantly to the CNF scholarship program, and as a recipient of a $4,500 award: please express to the alumni what the award means to you and how it will assist you in accomplishing your objectives. The alumni have given over $300,000 for the CNF program over the years, and it would be helpful if we could relay your personal gratitude for their support. MK: This award is obviously an extreme blessing to have received. Not only is it financially extremely generous, but it also serves as a very nice reminder that all of my hard work in high school paid off and as motivation to continue pushing myself in my next endeavors. Thank you SO much for all of your donations and extreme generosity through this program. Over the past twenty years, the Carlin Nalley Foundation has awarded over $300,000 in scholarships.
