A year ago during a planning meeting for the 2017 Lisle High School “All Years Reunion” (AYR) one of the topics came to music. The consensus was most everybody likes music, but an overwhelming majority of past attendees had expressed displeasure for the live music at a previous AYR simply because, “it was too loud and we had trouble talking.” (How many times have you heard this musicians?) Since the main purpose of the reunion is to set an atmosphere where people can meet and catch-up, a live band was out.
Personally I was disappointed but fully understanding. Since I have a passion for music; playing saxophone in Lisle schools from 1965 through 1972, being a roadie for Dirt Farm in 1970-71 whose members were Bill Doherty lead guitar, Scott Novak drums, Paul Marek bass and Reid Schaffer vocals and played with several bands after that I took on the responsibility for the music for the 2017 AYR. The solution that I came up with was designed as a win win.
A live Alumni Rock Fest on Saturday afternoon
Background music covering the top songs of 1957 through 2017 (which Scott Novak has played a big role in pulling together).
So I designed a web page for the Lisle Alumni Rock Fest and got the word out. We have had a nice response from musicians (it seems a lot do not use facebook) but can use more. I was recently asked if a jazz combo could play and of course my reply was yes.
Hind sight being 20/20….
I probably should have called the event Lisle Alumni Music Festival. So let me make this clear all types of music style musicians & bands are welcome including:
And all ages are welcome. So far we are spanning from a group with Ray Crow - Class of 1967, Jan Stackpole - Class of 1967, John Govi - Class of 1966, Al Carter - Class of 1968, & Al Judd - Class of 1970 to a group Lorenzo Esposito who is a recent graduate.
Please share any Lisle music stories, photos, or musician leads and pass this on to others who might find it of interest.
Thank You,
Don Krause
