2020 Ralph King Outstanding Technical & Vocational Award: Michael Morris
Dear Mr. Bartels,
I was excited to hear that I was the recipient of the Ralph King scholarship, and I appreciate the Carlin Nalley foundation for making this possible.
I have provided my responses below, and I have also attached my photo.
Please let me know if you need anything else.
Sincerely,
Michael Morris
1. At what educational institution do you intend to study next fall (and the location of the school).
University of Nebraska - Lincoln.
2. What will be your major or field of focus?
Mechanical Engineering
3. What is your career aspiration following the completion of your education?
When I complete my education I would like to work somewhere in the automotive design industry. I am interested in solving real world problems such as replacing fossil fuels with renewable energy or designing more efficient automobiles.
4. Who was your most influential teacher during your time at Lisle High School and why?
I took my first engineering class during my freshman year with Mr. Bamboat, and continued to take various technical electives each year. Mr. Bamboat challenged me to explore this field of study, he opened my eyes to all of the different types of engineering, and served as an inspiration to me to get into this field of study.
5. What was your most significant experience as a student at Lisle?
I am very active in the Lisle High School Band, participating in both the Jazz Band and Symphonic Band where I served as a leader of my section. I also volunteered my time assisting with the beginner Jazz Band at the junior high school and the beginner 5th Grade Band to help younger students. The band program really helped me to grow into the individual that I am today.
6. What does it mean to you to win this scholarship and is there anything you would like to say to the Alumni of Lisle High School who are supporting you?
The small town high school experience provided by Lisle High School enabled me to participate in multiple different activities and sports and I couldn’t have asked for a better experience. I appreciate the contributions that the alumni of Lisle High School have made to make this scholarship possible as I will be attending an out of state university, and this scholarship will contribute to my tuition payment. Once I enter the workforce, I hope that I can help support future Lisle High School students in a similar manner.
