Beverly Fiore Award: Outstanding Thespian
Fiore $4,500 Scholarship
The Thespian Troupe at Lisle High School annually selects an outstanding senior in theater productions through an established process.
Applications are available in Lisle Senior High School's guidance office.
In 2012, the Carlin Nalley Foundation began providing a scholarship in honor of Beverly Fiore. Mrs. Fiore was not just a teacher and director of dramas and musicals at LHS but also a beacon of inspiration. Her heart was in theater, and she directed over fifty productions during her teaching career. She was a member of the Illinois High School Theatre Festival Board and also founded the Thespian Troupe at Lisle High School. Her legacy lives on in this scholarship, inspiring future generations of theater students.

I hope this email finds you well. First I’d like to say I am very honored to receive this scholarship. Thank you and the rest of the Carlin Nalley Foundation for helping me make my education more affordable. Below I have attached a current portrait of myself. I should be getting my senior pics of in the next week or so, so I could send one of those too if you would like.
Here are the responses to your questions:
1. DePaul University in Chicago, Illinois.
2. I will be majoring in Economics and Political Science.
3. After DePaul I currently plan to go into law school to become a lawyer someday.
4. Mrs. Kerrn was undoubtedly my most influential teacher. Throughout learning from her in Honors English and working with her in Key Club and Student Congress, she’s always been someone I could ask for help or simply just talk to no matter what’s going on. Her enthusiasm and passion for what she does has inspired me to be just as enthusiastic about everything I work on, especially when it’s something I’m passionate about.
5. My most significant experience at Lisle was my senior year fall play because it was the most involved I’ve ever been in a show. I realized and began to truly appreciate all the memories and friendships I had made throughout my years in theater and the rest of my high school career.
6. It means so much to me to win this scholarship. Theater has been one of, if not the, most important things I’ve been involved in throughout high school and to be honored for it feels great. I’d just like to say thank you to the Alumni who are supporting me and my future. This award has truly helped made my education more affordable and I’m overwhelmingly grateful to have received it.
I hope this email has answered your questions the fullest extent. Again, it is an honor to receive this award and if anything else is needed, please feel free to let me know.
Stay safe and take care,

My name is Sophie Barnett and I received the Beverly Fiore and the Steve Green scholarships. I plan to continue my education at Illinois State University and major in elementary education with a minor in theater. During my time at Lisle the one thing that was the most influential to me was the music department. I was involved in Marching Band, Symphonic Band, Jazz Band, Jazz Combo, Concert Choir and Varsity Singers. I was also in the musicals every year, being the lead my Senior year. I loved being in the musicals because they helped me to find who I am, what I excel at, and what I want to study at college.
I would like to send my sincere thanks to all of the Lisle High School Alumni and members of the Carlin Nalley Foundation who selected me for the two scholarships. It really means a lot to me and I will always remember the generous gesture. It will be a tremendous help as I begin my time at Illinois State.
Very sincerely,
Sophie Barnett

Mr. Bartels,
It is such an honor to have recieved this award, I am so appreciative. Here are the answers to the questions about my educational plans. I am attending North Central College in pursuit of a major degree in Theater and minor in Film and Media Studies. The most influential moment of my high school career when attending Lisle Senior Highschool was acting in my Sophomore years production of the Bad Seed. This was a serious drama, and tested my theatrical abilities more than any other show I have participated in. I would like to thank the alumni and express my appreciation for this award. It is an honour and blessing to receive recognition for something in which I am passionate about, and wish to dedicate my life to. Thank you.

Dear Mr. John Bartels,
Thank you for awarding me the Beverly Fiore Award, assisting me as I pay for the education I need to reach my career goals. I greatly appreciate your recognition of the arts. The arts are often depreciated compared to sports and academics, so it means so much to be acknowledged for my passion toward theater and music. Even though I will be studying mechanical engineering next year, I will definitely continue my participation in music and theater. I’ve been told UIUC has many opportunities when it comes to the performing arts, so I’ll be sure to get involved! I am thrilled to be attending the University of Illinois for Mechanical Engineering and will update you as to how I use the scholarship money to reach my goals and make a difference. In response to your letter, I am very interested in staying in contact to possibly intern or work for your company. Currently, I am interested in renewable resources like biofuels and the development of sustainable technology. Once I am more experienced and qualified, I would love to be a part of a team that makes modern and environmentally conscious developments. Thanks again for the scholarship! Have a fantastic summer.
Sincerely,
Aniliza May
