I plan on spending the next 4 years at the University of Iowa in Iowa City, IA as an open major. I am between interests of study including environmental science, English, and journalism. However, I plan on minoring in theatre.
At Lisle High School, I am most proud of my artistic and academic achievements. I put my heart and soul into performing with my choir and in the musicals and play I was a part of. I am ecstatic to have been awarded "Actor of the Year" in 2022 for my role of Mother Superior in Sister Act the Musical, "Thespian of the Year" in 2023 for my extensive involvement in theatre at Lisle High School, and the "National School Choral Award" in 2023 for dedication in choir. Academically, I am proud to have been on the high honor roll for all 4 years and to have received the "Academic Excellence Award." I am proud of my persistence and drive to overcome a heavy workload, yet remain involved in my theatrical interests.
The most influential teacher to me from my high school is Mr. Woyna (English). I had him my freshman and junior year. I truly believe that the knowledge he has given and shown me will stick with me for the rest of my academic career and possible writing career as well. His content and strategy of teaching has been particularly engaging and meaningful to me. Mr. Woyna's class is the one class I find myself referencing daily, especially in my writing. I am grateful for his approach in requesting feedback from students that take his class. He is not only an incredible teacher but a flexible person with sincere listening skills. I want to seriously thank him for making me the educated person I am today.
In this next stage of my life, I want to figure out my calling. I've been continuously told to take the musical route in my studies. However, I will study a different type of passion of mine while keeping singing and acting in my outside-of-school life (without a single doubt). I want to choose a career path that will make a difference in the world (there has to be a reason why I'm dedicating myself to a profession). After my undergraduate, I will study for my master's. In college, I am most looking forward to meeting new people that are different from me and others that share the same passions as me. I'm super excited to form new connections!
I was through the roof when I heard my name called for the Beverly Fiore Scholarship. I am deeply honored to have been chosen for the drama scholarship under the mother of the Lisle Thespian Troupe herself: Ms. Beverly Fiore. I first want to personally thank her for her eminent contribution to theatre at LHS. She is highly respected by our current Thespian Troupe and we hope to make her proud. I want to immensely thank the Carlin Nalley Foundation for giving me this opportunity to pay for my college expenses and continue my education. This scholarship means so much to me and I will put it to good use by studying theatre as well. Thank you so much!
Sincerely,
Kayleigh Hrabrich
