Announcing the “Future Business Leader” Award & $4,500 Scholarship for Lisle High School seniors.12/27/2024 December 27, 2024 – Lisle, IL – In response to requests by Lisle High School seniors for a scholarship to further their business education, the Carlin Nalley Foundation Board voted to add its tenth scholarship, the “Future Business Leader” Award and Scholarship.
“We learned about the need for the FBL Award during a tabling event at LHS in the spring of 2024. CNF Directors Rachel Birkley and Karla Modelski reported that numerous students inquired about a business award, which we could not fulfill,” shared CNF President John Bartels. Simultaneously, Lisle High School’s 2019 Distinguished Alumni Award Recipient, Mr. Hobart L. Epstein of the Class of 1974, felt a need to give back to Lisle, offering to support a business/finance career path scholarship through CNF. Hobart Lee Epstein has had a significant career in South Korea, holding various leadership positions in investment banking and securities companies. “LHS had a significant impact on my life. I want to share my business and finance experiences by mentoring aspiring LHS students,” said Hobart Epstein. LHS will administer the award through the creation of an application and selection process with at least a dozen applicants expected. “The school believes this new scholarship will support and encourage the growing number of students who aspire to become business leaders,” said LHS Principal Eric Martzolf. Jennifer Zimmerman, LHS's assistant Principal of Student Services, noted, “I was impressed with how effective Rachel and Karla's interaction was for the students. LHS, we are excited to have the CNF board return for CNF scholarship tabling with the seniors, not once but twice!” Now that is teamwork, making the dream work! ### Lisle Alumni, I am saddened to report that Dr. John Mulcare passed away at age 87 after a full life. We should remember Dr. Mulcare as one of the exceptional teachers ever at Lisle High School, whose positive influence on his students spanned 30 years from the early 1960s through his retirement in 1993. Those of us students in his chemistry class remember his commitment to allowing everyone to participate in the learning experience. His outstanding teaching method included hands-on labs, demonstrations, and continuous challenges to observe and think critically through complicated problems. We also remember how much he cared for his students, insisting on kindness and full engagement in his classroom. He was a shining example to his students and faculty peers and continued to stay in touch with his many friends from Lisle High School during his retirement. In 2014, the Carlin Nalley Foundation honored Dr. Mulcare by naming one of our eight Lisle High School scholarships after him. The Dr. John Mulcare Scholarship is a monetary & academic award given to an outstanding senior science student. He was always very proud to tell his friends about his award, and they were usually amazed that he was still so highly regarded and remembered decades after retirement. Those who knew him during his days at Lisle were unsurprised that he received this honor. Over the last several years, I have occasionally joined Dr. Mulcare for dinner at his home in Lincoln Park, Chicago. Despite his age and health challenges, he remained fiercely dedicated to living independently in the city, which he managed to do until months before his passing. He is remembered fondly by his family, friends, partners in the Lisle faculty, and, of course, the thousands of students whose lives he touched. I invite you to pray for Dr. Mulcare and his family and reflect on his positive impact on you during his rich life. Click here to view his obituary. John Bartels, Class of 1985

Kaylee Ann Gansberg About Kaylee Ann Gansberg
Kaylee Ann Gansberg graduated from Lisle High School in 2019 and was not only a talented artist and photographer but an individual with a heart of gold. She had an infectious laugh and a brilliant smile that could light up a room. Growing up in Lisle, Kaylee was always very creative and experimented with all mediums of art, which created an artistic talent that still shines brightly today. She participated in numerous art events and won awards at every scholastic level. One of her proudest moments was winning the I-8 All-Conference Art Award in 2019 during her senior year at LHS. Kaylee developed a focus and passion for photography during her college years at Western Michigan University and was on track to graduate with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in April 2023. While she always strived for excellence in her academics, it was adventure, travel, and world experiences that drove her motivation. Dreaming of traveling the world to photograph architectural designs, she fearlessly sought out new experiences and was ambitious to pursue a career in photography. Kaylee never took no for an answer believing that nothing great ever comes easy or without perseverance. Being a role model to many, her outgoing personality captivated those who knew her. She will always be remembered as a loving, caring, and giving person who made the world a better place. Kaylee touched so many lives in a positive way, and we hope she can be a muse for young artists on a similar creative path that embody both the artist and the art as she did. Through the scholarship established in her name, Kaylee’s memory will live on to help others pursue their artistic dreams and aspirations. |
