TR: In the fall, I will continue my education at the four-year University of Missouri, majoring in Computer Science and minoring in Business.
CNF: Which of your achievements at Lisle High School do you hold in the highest regard?
TR: The awards that hold the strongest regard for me were academic excellence, all-conference, and all-state academic team. I believe that academics are equally important as athletic achievements, so being able to achieve success in both the classroom and inside sports was very important to me. The academic excellence award was given for having a cumulative 4.0+ grade point average across high school, which shows hard work and dedication through all four years. All conferences within football and basketball are given to specific players within the Illinois Central Eight Conference. To be picked as one athlete among all the different athletes on my individual team and the other teams across my conference was a pretty special feeling. The all-state academic team was awarded for having a high-grade point average along with all-conference. All these awards are special to me and show the importance of both academics and athletics.
CNF: Which educators or staff members at Lisle High School had the most significant impact on you, and what made them so influential?
TR: Mr. Bamboat, along with many others, had a large influence on me throughout my high school journey. In specific, Mr. Bamboat, always made teaching interesting and made his classes a highlight of my day. As Mr. Bamboat, an engineering teacher, helped propel my interest in programming and made it an easy choice to decide what I wanted to pursue in college. With all the projects and creative freedom within his classroom, I was able to learn without limits and truly feel like I can create whatever I want if I work hard and set my mind on it. Outside of academics, Mr. Bamboat was a good genuine person and gave life lessons and was there for me at hard points during my high school career. His influence and lessons will not just stay inside his classroom but carry into my future pursuits.
CNF: After reaching your next academic milestone, what personal or professional goals do you aim to achieve?
TR: I want to find a job that incorporates programming or computer science that intrigues my interest. I want to be able to stay creative and build projects that I have genuine interest in or projects where I can help others. I feel like any of these paths will make me happy and fulfill my desires of using programming in an effective and helpful way.
CNF: The Lisle Alumni have contributed significantly to the CNF scholarship program. As a recipient of a $4,500 award, please express to the alumni what the award means to you and how it will assist you in accomplishing your objectives. The alumni have given over $300,000 for the CNF program over the years, and it would be helpful if we could relay your personal gratitude for their support.
TR: I am very grateful for receiving this award. When my name was called, I was in shock as the mass amount of money that $4,500 can help in so many ways and relieves financial stress. I am one of seven siblings so the cost of sending that many students to college can be stressful and overwhelming for myself and my father. My mother passed away this March from cancer, so it feels good relieving some stress on my father's shoulder as it is hard to try to fulfill every one of his kids wants and needs without the help of my mother's salary which he previously had. This scholarship will profoundly impact my educational pursuits. It allows me to focus more on my projects and studies, rather than worrying about how to cover college expenses. I am immensely thankful for the support from the Alumni. Your contributions have a lasting effect on students like me, enabling us to strive for success and make our families and the alumni proud.
Thank you again for everything, and do not hesitate to ask for anything,
