I will be attending the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and studying biochemistry. I hope to go to medical school and specialize in pediatric dermatology after completing my bachelor’s degree.
I am most proud of my Clover Holder invention that I made in Intro to Engineering. Our objective was to create a useful product that had never been made before. In addition, we also had to publish a website and present a product proposal. This project pushed me to take the creative route and taught me how to take the initiative. With no prior experience in engineering and 3D printing, I never thought that I’d be able to operate a computer program and design my own unique product. Even though I encountered many technical difficulties, the process of creating felt thrilling. This experience has encouraged me to sample new ventures; I’m so excited to explore everything that life has to offer.
The science teachers at LHS have all played an essential role in nurturing my love for science. Specifically, Mr. Lascala had the greatest impact on me. He has such a strong passion for teaching, offering the utmost support to each and every one of students. I took Mr. Lascala’s honors bio and AP bio class; every day, I looked forward to learning about the delicate processes that give life. He opened my eyes to the possibilities of science, and he provided me and other students many unforgettable experiences. From collecting plant samples at Treehaven, to observing the cell cycle underneath a microscope, I thoroughly enjoyed each and every moment of hands-on learning. Mr. Lascala always does his best to make his class engaging while cultivating a calming learning environment. He is such an understanding and considerate teacher, and I am so grateful to have been a part of his class. His classes are one of the main reasons that I decided to pursue a degree in biochemistry.
To the Lisle Alumni: thank you. When I found out that I was the recipient of this scholarship, I felt so overjoyed. I'm truly grateful for all the help you have given me. Receiving this scholarship has opened incredible opportunities for me and other students to continue our education and pursue our dreams. I will continue to work my hardest at U of I and in the far-off future knowing that I have the support of such an incredible community. Thank you again!
